Published in Paris in 1927 by B. P. Grimaud, Le Tarot Astrologique is a stunning divergence from traditional tarot. Conceived by the important French occultist George Muchery and brought to life by the artistic skill of Henri Armengol, this deck is first and foremost a sophisticated instrument of astromancy.

The deck’s structure is a clear testament to its purpose. It forsakes the conventional Major and Minor Arcana for a cosmos-centric system of 48 cards: 36 dedicated to the degrees of the zodiac, 9 to the planets and stars, and the remaining cards to key astrological points like the Ascendant and Part of Fortune.

Beyond its intricate symbolism, the deck is a work of art. The cards display the telltale strong lines and vivid, dramatic coloring characteristic of printing in the era before and shortly after the Great War. Each card is dense with information, featuring double-ended titles, astrological names, and planetary symbols.

In this review, we’ll unbox this vintage marvel, walk through its unique guidebook, and assess whether this beautiful piece of occult history holds up as a modern divination tool or stands best as a collector’s masterpiece.
