As writers, we, at times, get comfortable in our genre. It reminds me of the Two of Wands.
While our passion is like the fire that burns the words from our soul onto the page, we hold on to what we know. We don’t look outside our box. Even though we’re firmly rooted in our skills, we hesitate to jump out of our skins. Yes, we play with the idea of challenging ourselves with other styles, but we get stuck at the crossroads of our minds.
What if we’re not good enough? What if people don’t like what we write? What if, what if, what if?
To answer that question, I have five words: “Who cares what others think!” Instead of all the doubt, make a decision and go for it. It’s better to try and expand your skills than to stay stagnant without growth. For all you know, you could be the next Hemmingway or Walt Whitman. But, if you don’t let go a little and experiment with different forms available in the palm of your hand, you’ll never know.
So, take a chance, empower yourself, and you might be surprised at what the outcome might be.
